Awesome Snow Preschool Activities

Looking for some cool snow preschool activities? A snowy day provides an unparalleled opportunity to build your preschooler's science inquiry and observational skills while having a fun-filled outdoor snow preschool activities experience. Here are 10 things you can do to help your child have a great day in the snow. I love snow. Living in a tropical country, the first snow sighting for me was in Banff Canada, when I was 21. You have no idea how lunatic I was, when I got to see snow for the first time.
Adjust them, as appropriate, for the age and ability of your preschooler. First, when snow is in the forecast, track its arrival on TV and by looking at the sky. Often, wispy high clouds (cirrus) herald the snow's approach. Clouds get successively lower and darker as the snow nears. Even at night, sky watching can be cool. The cirrus clouds may make a ring (known as a halo) around the moon. Your preschooler doesn't need to know cloud names, just that there are clouds up there! Perhaps, you get a local meteorologist to teach the kids as well. Once the snow starts, don appropriate outdoor clothing (snowsuit, boots, mittens and hat) and head outdoors. Let snow fall on a dark piece of clothing, a dark picnic table and/or a nearby car. Have your child closely examine the snowflakes. What do they observe? Sometimes flakes are six-sided crystals; at other times they may appear as needles or other shapes. Be careful your preschooler doesn't breathe on the snowflakes or they'll "disappear" (unto itself a learning activity). Great snowflake preschool activities!
Even with just a little snow cover, it's easy to make snowballs. Gather up some snow and show your preschooler how to press the snow together to make a snow glob. With practice, and as they get a little older, they'll be better able to make a snowball. The snowy day preschool activities are full of fun! If you have a safe target, let your preschooler work on baseball skills. Have them throw snowballs toward a wall. Have a mini-snowball fight, being careful not to throw too hard or make the snowball too solid.
Make two additional snowballs, each slightly smaller than the preceding one. Lift and stack atop one another. Pack snow between the snowballs to ensure snowperson stability. Making larger snowballs works best when there is at least an inch of snow on the grass. Decorating your snowperson can be fun, too. It's easiest to ask your preschooler what they would like to use to decorate it BEFORE you go outside. Then you can bring a collection of items with you in a waterproof bag. Culminate your snowy day by creating parent-child snow angels. These fun moments always beg for digital photographs and home videos. Come prepared and get many action shots on your snow preschool activities!
Finally, print out some of the pictures from your outdoor experience. With some help (and scissors, glue and/or tape), your preschooler can then make a collage from these. The finished product will surely grace a refrigerator door or the door of your preschooler's room.
If you live where snowy days are rare, then the snow preschool activities become even more special. Do share with us your favourite preschool activities for snow!
