Preschool Thanksgiving Activities

It is time for some Preschool Thanksgiving Activities again! A holiday to celebrate the Pilgrim's thankfulness over a bountiful harvest and friendship with the natives, Thanksgiving is celebrated the last Thursday of November in the USA. There are many preschool activities that cover autumn, harvest and thankfulness, as well as the meetings with the Indians. Here are a few ideas to try.
Handprint Turkey -
Have the kids trace their hands onto paper.Color the fingers for the feathers, with the thumb being the head. Add some eyes, the gobbler and feet.
Indian Corn Painting -
Place some paper in a box lid. Provide different colors of tempura paint for the kids to use on paper plates with a corncob placed on each. Have the kids dip the cobs into the paint and roll them around on the paper. This provides an interesting and creative texture.
Thankful Collage or Bulletin Board Display -
Have the kids find pictures, draw or write about what they are most thankful for and display them as a collage or on a bulletin board. Do share with us your finished product byClicking Here!
Turkey Feather Painting - Another unique idea for your Preschool Thanksgiving Activities. Let the kids dip the feathers into different paints and use them as brushes to make their own paintings. These should be used like a quill.
Pin the Gobbler on the Turkey - Played like Pin the Tail on the Donkey.
Turkey Hunt - Played like Hide and Seek. The kids hiding are the turkeys. One or two children and seek, they are the farmers. Have a pen area put aside for the captured turkeys. This can be one of your Preschool Thanksgiving Activities for the outdoors.
Beaded Necklaces -
Necklaces were used as trade in Colonial times. Have the preschoolers string together their own necklaces by providing them with different beads and yarn. You can also check out our beading page by Clicking Here.
Turkey Feather Counting - Cut out five turkeys from felt and number them. Cut out turkey feathers from different colored felt. Have the kids match the correct number of feathers to the number on they turkeys.
Turkey Feast - Have the kids bring in food they are thankful for and have a feast. Share with the kids on the origin of their food and to be thankful to the farmers.
Vegetable Basket Craft - Print out templates of different vegetables and allow the kids to color them.You can get some vegetables coloring pages by clicking here. Print a template of a basket out on colored paper or card stock. Glue the vegetables onto the basket. You can also have them write the first letter of each vegetable in the middle of each image.
With Thanksgiving lined up, your November preschool activities will be a hit! Above all, remember the theme and why we celebrate the holiday and you can't really fail.
