Fun Preschool Summer Activities

Yippie! It's summer time again! Let's gather around and check out some awesome Preschool Summer Activities right here!

Birds -

You can create hummingbird feeders out of plastic two liter bottles and filling them with sugar water.

If you have a "National Bird" in your country like the The American Bald Eagle in the USA, you can have a lesson planned surrounding your National symbol.

You can augment either one of these Preschool Summer Activities with a trip to a bird sanctuary or zoo and by using color pages and/or word searches.

Insects and Bugs -

go on a picnic outing or a hike and stop and observe all the little bugs crawling about and flying here and there.

You can also bring in an ant farm for the kids to see how they work or a special guest beekeeper to give them a fun lesson on bees.

Marine Life -

Head off for a day at the beach exploring coral, starfish and dolphins (or whatever may be floating by in your neck of the woods). Take a field trip to an aquarium. summer preschool activities

Bulletin Board Summer Garden -

Put together a paper mural with ants, grass, flower stems, worms and snakes drawn onto it and hang it on a wall. Cut out some flower shapes no wider than six inches and let the kids decorate at whim.

Have some small face shots of the kids cut out and let them glue them to their flowers as they attach them to the stems.

Next have the kids decorate some coffee filters and then have the adult spray the filters for a tie-dye effect. After pinching the filters in the center slide them into clothes pins and slip through some pipe cleaners for antennae to form butterflies.

Take some green paper to cut out some leaf shapes and let the kids draw some black veins on them. Then glue some pompoms on them to make caterpillars.

Three-inch black and red circles can be cut out for ladybugs. Fingerpaint can be used to make the polkadots.

Circle-time Preschool Summer Activities -

Provide the children with either one large piece of butcher paper to share or smaller pieces for each individual.

Have them write and draw their favorite things about summer. Next have them share their stories with each other.

Talking Sun Puppet -

Trace the preschoolers' hands onto five yellow and six orange pieces of paper. Each kid paints the bottom of one 9" paper plate yellow.

Cover another paper plate bottom with glue and place the hand shapes around the plate for the rays of the sun.

Teach them the pattern of first yellow, then orange with two inch opening between each ray. Place the yellow plate over the glue plate and leave an opening at the bottom.

Have the kids paint or draw some faces onto their puppets as if they are talking.

Ice Cream in a Bag -

Combine 2T sugar and 1c milk in a resealable bag and put this inside another bag. Place ice cubes in the bottom of the big bag and add the smaller bag of milk; then surround with more ice cubes.

Sprinkle 1/4c salt over the ice. Wrap a towel around the bag of ice and put into a plastic shopping bag and close with a twist tie.

Shake the bag for about 15 minutes, remove the small bag and rinse off the salt with cold water.

The milk has turned into ice cream. This can be a great preschool summer science idea as well!
