Awesome Volcanic Eruption

This is our very first preschool science activity that we tried at home!

Form mountains out of playdough around baby bottles filled with red food coloring and baking soda.

When you add vinegar, you can have your own volcanic eruptions.


Here comes the details:

what you need:
clear bottle, some playdoh, baking soda, detergent,vinegar


Procedure:
1. make the "valcano" cone by moulding playdoh around a baby bottle.Dont cover the hole or drop the playdoh inside
2. Pour in warm water into the bottle until its almost full, leave about 2 inch at the top.
3. Add in red or orange food coloring.
4. add about 6 drops of detergent into the bottle
3. add about 2 tablespoon of baking soda to the liquid

Now for the fun part,
4. Slowly pour in vinegar into the bottle, and watch out!

The scientific explanations:
When the vinegar and baking soda is mixed together , harmless carbon dioxide gas is given off in the process,

creating the "lava', fizzes, pops and crackles. awesome stuff!
