Home Made Slimy Slime

Slime can be a fun mess for your preschoolers to play with and its an awesome preschool science activity.

While teaching the science of chemical reactions, mix equal amounts of white glue and water together.

In another bowl, dissolve two tablespoons of Borax(available in the laundry section of your grocery store).

When you add bits of Borax solution to the glue solution while stirring quickly slime will be born!

You can also add some food coloring to make colorful slimes.

What you can do with the slime
The slime will start out as a highly flexible polymer.
You can stretch it and watch it flow.
As you work it more, the slime will become stiffer and more like putty.
Then you can shape it and mold it, though it will lose its shape over time.
Don't eat your slime and don't leave it on surfaces that could be stained by the food coloring.

How to keep your slime
You can store your slime in a sealed ziplock bag and keep it in the refrigerator. Slime can get hard due to drying, so I suggest to keep it sealed when you're not using it. Borax is a natural pesticide , so bugs wont bug it. Cool "Slime Science"!

Safety Notes:

Adult must be present at all times.
Slime is extremely messy. Be careful around furniture and carpets!
You might get some of the white glue on your clothes.
If you do, just get some clean water and wet the area well to help remove the glue.
The Slime that we made isn't really toxic, but I wouldn't eat it.
Borax is used to clean clothes (it's a form of soap), so that won't be much of a bother.
If you use food coloring, it'll stain your hands (for a while) and your clothes, so be careful.
