So are you looking for some easy Preschool Fire Safety Activities? Fire can be a wonder to watch with its dancing flames and pretty colors. However, we need to make sure that children, including preschoolers, are aware of the dangers that fire can cause. They should learn at this early age what to do in case there is a fire, what the element is all about and how to prevent having fires. Here are some simple fire safety preschool activities for your referrence.
Fireman preschool activities - Color or paint a cutout of a firefighter's hat. Glue the hat onto a circle that the children can draw their own faces onto the circle so they can become firemen. It will also be great to invite a real fireman to the class!
Online Games on Fire Safety -
Sparky, spokesdog for the US National Fire Prevention Association, has a site full of games and preschool fire safety activities for fire prevention.
Fire Hydrant - Have the children paint or color a template of a fire hydrant. Feel free to let them add facial features as well. As an added bonus, you may want them to cite a preschool fire safety rule about fire.
Stop, Drop and Roll - This is how to put a fire out when it is on you. This preschool fire safety activity will show your children what to do instead of running to their parents if their clothes catch fire.
Burning Candles - While observing a burning candle, the kids can learn that fire needs air to breathe, grow and burn. Next cover the burning candle with a clear jar so the kids can see that the fire will extinguish itself once it has no air. This would also be why you don't want to run with your clothes on fire, the fire has more air that way to grow and burn.
Emergency 911 (America) / 999 (UK) - Teach your preschooler how to dial the emergency number in case they need to do so someday. You can get a toy phone out and have them dial while you role-play an emergency. Coloring pages are also good for this exercise. Explain the importance of asking for the police, fire department or the ambulance and each instance when they are needed.
Smoke Alarms and Exit Routes - One of the most important preschool activities on fire safety for the children to know is what to do when the alarm goes off and where to go. You could play that the alarm has gone off and hold a mock evacuation for the preschoolers. Do this in the home and at school. Teach the children how the smoke alarm works and how to test them.
Fire Trucks - Cut rectangular shapes and circular shapes out of construction paper. Have the children assemble fire trucks by gluing these together to form a fire truck template. The kids can use yarn or string for the fire hose and straws for the ladders.
Firehouse - Take the children on a field trip to the neighborhood firehouse to learn more about fire safety. Add this to your preschool activities for fire prevention week.
Exercise Like a Fireman - Talk about what firemen do, what do they wear, what does the uniform look like, do they need to be strong (yes) and why must they be strong. Set aside some time to do some exercises and maybe even have the kids share their favorite exercise with the class.
Match Hunt - Hide some cutouts of matches around the room or around the house. Each time your preschooler finds a match; they need to run to an adult to get rid of it properly. This will teach them not to touches matches, as well as how to dispose of them.
Fire is dangerous enough that this subject should really not be missing from any preschooler's lesson plan. Teach them fire safety well so that no harm may come to them if ever confronted by the roaring blaze. Have Fun!
