Fun Pet Preschool Activities

So are you looking for some fun Pet Preschool Activities?

Have you ever met a kid that didn't want to have a pet?

No, I didn't think so. Most of the parents even provide pets for the family because, well, we're all kids at heart aren't we?

Let's go over a few activities you can do with your preschoolers in relationship to their pets.

Show and Tell Pet Preschool Activities-

Show and Tell is always a good staple.

Have the kids bring in their pets and have a pet day in the classroom so they can all share their best friends.

Further the lesson by teaching about each animal: the characteristics, habitats, and discuss why they make great pets.

Cats -

How about some preschool activities on cats. Cats are one of the most beloved types of pets. You can make your own kitties with your preschoolers.

Use templates cut out of construction paper for the different shapes for the head, ears, nose and paws.

Have the kids glue their kitties together. You can use similar ideas for dog preschool activities or any other preschool activities about house pets.

Aquarium -

A fieldtrip to an aquarium can help the kids learn about fish. Combine it with a lesson on how the fish live and breathe.

Don't forget to include the difference between the edible fish and the fish that we use as pets.

Fish -

The Fish Bowl Craft can be combined with the previous activity if you like.

Use a template for the fish bowl and different shaped fish.

Cut them all out of white paper. Let the kids color each as they like and put the fishies "inside" their bowls.

Puppy -

Dog and puppy paper bag crafts are an alternative to the kitty craft.

You will want to have paper bags and different shapes cut out for the body parts for the dogs.

Glue the shapes onto the bags and you have a puppet!

Dog Bone Maths -

Dog bone sequencing for math lessons is great!

Have different sized bones cut from construction paper that the kids can put in order from largest to smallest.

If you want to try different colors at the same time, this would help the tots learn that as well.

Kitty Toy Counting -

Kitty toy counting is another math game. Have different types of cat toys the kids can count and sort out into groups. Count by twos and fives for variety.

Color Identifications -

Bird grouping is a craft designed to teach colors and the concept of similar vs. different. Have different color birds the kids need to separate into the different color groups to learn the colors.

You can also try the activity by using different species and have them separated out in that manner.

Pet Preschool Activities and Games -

Dog Obedience School can be played like Simon Says. "Your trainer says..." is the lead in on this game. For instance: "Your trainer says beg!"

Dog tags -

Dog (or Cat) Tags can be made for each preschooler in the room.

Have them pick a dog (or cat) name for themselves.

Next write their new name on a bone shaped piece of construction paper or for a cat a mouse. Let the kids decorate the tags as they see fit and then let them wear them as necklaces.

Exotic Pets -

If you want to go for the more exotic pets, you can always plan on a Pet Preschool Activities for chimps. Other household pets may include gerbils, hamsters or snakes.

You can always play a relay race for the hamsters or gerbils and maybe hide and seek for snakes.
