Awesome Cinco De Mayo Preschool Activities
|
|||||||
So are you looking for some Cinco de Mayo Preschool Activities? It is generally stated that Cinco de Mayo is celebrated because it is the Mexican Independence Day. The truth is, it is in celebration of the Mexican defeat of the French Army lead by Napoleon III at the Battle de Puebla in the 1800s. Cinco da Mayo preschool activities are widely sought after in the United States each year primarily by the Latino communities, as well as others in the community. To help the preschoolers join in on the fun, we will lie out some Cinco De Mayo Preschool Activities options for you and your classroom to enjoy on this grand day!
Maracas - Maracas can be made and played! You will have to demonstrate how to play them by shaking them to create music. Pass out two plastic or paper cups to each child, along with a handful of beans or rice. Put the beans or rice inside one cup and tape the two cups together with masking tape or electrical tape. The kids can decorate their maracas with markers or crayons and the maracas are ready to make music!
Bottle Baleros -
Bottle Baleros is the "ball in the cup" game you see children play at times. To make your own, cut the bottom out of a small plastic bottle. Wrap craft paper around the bottles and decorate with stickers, paper, paints - whatever you would like to use. Tie a string or piece of yarn around the bottle neck and take a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil and glue the other end of the yarn to the foil, forming the foil into a ball. To play: let the ball fall off the bottle and swing it upwards to try to get back onto the bottle's top. Great for all other Mexican preschool activities too!
Mexican Flowers - Mexican Flowers can be a pretty addition to the home or classroom. Hand out a few different colored squares of tissue paper to each child. Demonstrate how to fanfold and twist tie the papers together. Have the kids follow suit. Have the kids peel back the layers to form flowers. One of the Cinco De Mayo preschool activities which can be turned into a great gift as well!
Mexican Lanterns - Mexican Lanterns are easy to make, too. Have the children decorate a piece of construction paper that you hand out to them. Take the paper and fold it in half lengthwise and cut 1" slits that begin at the fold, but leave a 1" border around the other edges. Have the kids unfold and roll each long edge of the paper in a circle and staple them together. By using a hole punch at the top, you can crate a place to slide a string for hanging. Fun Cinco De Mayo preschool activities!
Mexican Hats -
Mexican Hats are created by cutting hat shapes out of construction paper. Punch holes all the way around and let the preschoolers lace (with ribbon, string, etc.) and decorate the hats. Great for all fiesta themed preschool activities!
Paper Chains - Paper Chains made with the colors of the Mexican Flag: green, white, and red are easy to make.
Coloring pages - Coloring pages can be handed out based on the history of the day and culture.
Piņatas - Piņatas can be made out of Paper Mache, with your choice of shapes and filled with Mexican candy treats or similar. I'm sure you can think of a lot more of other preschool activities on making pinatas.
Ojos de Dios -
God's Eyes (Ojos de Dios) are fun and easy. Using popsicle sticks for the crosses, have the kids use different yarns to create their own masterpieces. You may need to show them how to thread the yarn at first.
Cheese Nachos - Cheese Nachos can be offered as a snack item. Have the kids decorate the table with their previously made flowers or chains.
Congratulations! You have just completed your day with great success - just don't forget to through in a little history on why it's a celebration.
