Fun Car Trip Preschool Activities

Looking for some fun car trip preschool activities? Anyone with children will realize that travelling in a car doesn't exactly mix well with their young little minds.

Kids live in a time zone that allows for faster travel because you just know that you'll get thrown the question "Are we there yet?"

To avoid this, and to remain in the same time zone as the preschoolers, there is a host of activities you can have ready for them to do in the car while on your trip.

Surprise Packages are great to have.

Plan ahead and fill paper bags with a small toy, juice boxes, snacks, perhaps some stickers and be prepared with fun car trip preschool activities- whatever you feel will make a good award.

Mark on a map increments of 25, 50 or 75 miles.

When you reach each destination, pull out a surprise from the bag. Great preschool activities in a bag!

Drawing Boards such as Etch-A-Sketch, Magna Doodle or some white boards with markers are great car trip preschool activities as they can while away the day for the children as they draw and dream.

Aluminum Foil Modeling can turn the preschooler into a Picasso!

With sheets of aluminum foil, let the kids mold anything they can imagine.

You can also get some printable preschool activities like kid's coloring pages for the journey.

Treasure Bottles are large soda bottles or a peanut butter jar filled 2/3 full of uncooked rice or birdseed.

Put around 20-25 small objects inside (for instance, buttons, nuts, paperclips, penny, beads, etc.).

Make sure you remember how many of what you put inside.

Glue the lid shut if necessary to secure its closure. The kids can roll the bottle around until they find all the items.

Preschool activities for the car trip can be really simple!

Many cars can come equipped nowadays with a DVD Player. Bring along the kids' favorite shows for viewing. One of the backup car trip preschool activities, I would say!

I Spy with my little eye.

You can work with letters of the alphabet, colors, or shapes -whatever level your children are. Don't make it to hard for them to guess! Fun preschool activities for children on a journey!

License Plates can make fun games. One game is to have the children do math with the numbers on the plate by adding or subtracting them together.

Another method is to have them come up with words for the letters.

For instance: 365 VBS would be 14 or Very Bright Suns or maybe Valentine Birthday Sing - the words don't need to make sense together.

This will help with their arithmetic and spelling/alphabet skills.

Animal Sounds are an easy way to keep the kids enthralled.

As you make an animal sound, have the kids guess what animal it may be.

Animal Name Game is fun to play with everyone in the car taking turns. Name an animal and the next person uses the last letter of that animal to begin the name of the animal they will name, and so forth.

Example: Ape and then Elephant and T-Rex.

A similar game, My Mother owns a Grocery Store can be played. "My mother owns a grocery store and in it she has something that begins with the letter__."

Others car passengers try to guess what the item is that starts with that letter that you may find in the store.

You can exchange the grocery store for any other store you may think of.

Many of these car trip preschool activities can be played as you drive by the whole family.

They are also designed to be exciting for older children so they don't feel left out.

Be safe, be well, and have fun out there on the road!
