Amelia Earhart Preschool Activities

July is a great time to look into some fun Amelia Earhart preschool activities to celebrate her birthday which was in July 24th 1897. Amelia Earhart was a women aviation pioneer and author. She became an icon for being the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean , without much of the advanced equipments that we get today.

However, sadly, during an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937, Earhart disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island. People all around the globe are continued to be facinated with her life, career and her mysterious disappearance, preschoolers not excluded! Let's checkout some fun Amelia Earhart Preschool Activities here!

Make a Day of It -

Any day is a great day for learning and preschoolers are always eager to learn new things about the world around them and the people who live and have lived in it, as well as the things that help make the lives of people easier.

However, you can plan a themed day or topic like "Modes of Transportation", "Wonderful Women in History" or "Amelia Earhart Day" ( which is July 24th, so this is best for summer school programs) to teach a lesson on the legendary Amelia Earhart.

You could also create some Space preschool activities or add in together in your July Preschool Activities.

Share a Story -

Preschoolers love a good story. Luckily, there are many books available on Amelia Earhart including first biography series and picture books geared at pre-readers. Find an age appropriate Amelia book that tells her story in an exciting way that will hold the children's interest.

Amelia Earhart Preschool Activities-Story Creation -

Children may love listening to a good story, but they also love telling their own! They may not possess the writing skills necessary but they can tell a story through drawings. Provide them with handwriting manuscripts with space for illustrations and allow their imaginations to come to life on a page!

Make Paper Airplanes -

Paper airplanes are simple and fun to make, but even more fun to fly! Give the children colored construction paper and let them decorate it as they desire. Then show them how to fold it into an airplane and let them see how their planes soar in or outside. You can also decorate Styrofoam planes to skip the folding and get straight to the fun.

Pretend Play -

Play is such an important part of learning for younger children. Take advantage of this simple truth by allowing them to dress up as Amelia Earhart or pilots! Ask parents to donate clothing and materials for the special day or have each child sent to school donning their best Earhart inspired fashions.

Create a Play Plane -

The perfect companion to all those pretend pilots is a giant cardboard airplane! You can either purchase one already cut out (you will have to assemble it yourself) or create your own from large cardboard boxes. Let the children decorate the airplane with paints, markers and other art supplies; then let them explore their inner pilot at play. Great for any Flight Preschool Activities as well.

Airplane or Things that Fly Collage -

Provide poster board, paste, scissors and plenty of pages of pictures and let the children perfect their cutting skills while learning and having a blast.

Letters A and P -

Practice or introduce letters of the alphabet, A for Airplane and Amelia and/or P for pilot. Provide coloring/tracing pages and handwriting manuscripts featuring the featured letters.

Snacks -

Need a snack time idea that the children will adore, find yummy and that honors the icon you're teaching them about? Then banana airplanes are just the treat you seek! Give each child half of a banana, two pretzel sticks to use as wings and four mini marshmallows with a dab of frosting on each to stick to their plane as windows.

Meet a Pilot -

If possible, end your adventure in the world of aviation and Amelia Earhart by introducing the children to a real life pilot! Have them discuss what a pilot does, airplanes and all things that fly - it's sure to be memory making moment. Ahh ha.. how about some preschool_activities on travel as well?
