African culture preschool activities are a perfect way of helping your child to understand the different African cultures and heritage. It is also a great way of helping them learn about other races and the importance of treating them as equals. Use activities to show them that these races have the same human capabilities as you, and even though they may do things differently, it does not make them any lesser as human beings. Here are some great African culture preschool activities to get your child informed about the African culture from an early age:
African folklores- Young children love stories. Tell your child or children African folk tales as part of your preschool activities about Africa. This is a great way for them to learn about Africa. Have them ask questions and give their opinions of what they think about the tales. Ask whether they learned any lessons and share the moral of each story.
African recipes- One of the greatest ways of making Africa come alive is by making meals using simple African recipes. There are countless recipes you can find over the Internet or in recipe books across bookstores. Prepare these simple meals with your child and sample the different tastes.
Play- Explain different African cultures as part of your African culture preschool activities and ask the children to come up with simple plays based on what they have learned.
Knowledge Quiz- Come up with a play to test the children's knowledge of Africa. It could include questions, quizzes and any other creative format you can think of.
Songs- Teach African songs or other songs touching on Africa, which do not necessarily need to have originated in Africa. This is one of the greatest ways through which the children can memorize the facts they learn.
African animals- There are countless animals in Africa. This topic can also be used on its on as part of your African animals preschool activities Teach them to the kids, matching names and pictures. Then have the children draw the animals and name them, or make them using materials of their choice. Animals could include elephants, lions, crocodiles, monkeys, gorillas, ostriches, zebras, hippos and antelopes. This will easily be one of the more favourite African culture preschool activities!
Minerals lessons- Teach the children about minerals found in Africa and the corresponding countries they can be found in. You can use puzzles, games and word searches for this activity.
A day in the life of a child - Teach the children about a day in the life of an African child in different economic and civic settings. Have them compare and contrast the child's day to theirs. This is a great activity for helping the child distinguish the difference between rights and responsibilities.
Form words from animal puzzles - Use animal puzzles and ask the children to make out the words in the animal. The words could be new vocabulary they just learnt or any words as used in grammar. You can use different animals when making the puzzles to keep the kids' animal knowledge fresh.
History and Art Collection - Use images of items that originate from Africa in your African culture preschool activities and have the children form a collection. They can sub divide the collections into clusters based on country of origin, where items from the same country are named separately and put together. Do the same for African historical and political leaders.
